Terms of Service
Last updated: 17 July 2026
These terms form the agreement between you and PublishJourney. Please read them before you create an account.
PublishJourney supports publication planning. It does not submit work to venues on your behalf.
1. Who we are
PublishJourney ("we", "us", "our") operates the PublishJourney website and service. We are based in Sydney, Australia. You can reach us at support@publishjourney.com.
2. Accepting these terms
By creating an account or using the service, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the service.
3. What PublishJourney is
PublishJourney helps researchers find academic journals and conferences, compare them, track their deadlines, and manage related research tasks. Venue information is aggregated from the public scholarly database provider and other public scholarly datasets, and in some cases from other users.
PublishJourney is not a submission system. We do not submit work on your behalf, we do not correspond with editors for you, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting for any publisher or venue listed in the product.
4. Eligibility and your account
You must be at least 16 years old to use the service.
One account per person. You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account. In particular:
- provide an email address that is genuinely yours, as you will need it to verify and recover the account;
- keep your password confidential, and tell us promptly if you believe someone else has obtained it; and
- do not impersonate another person or claim an ORCID iD that is not yours.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- scrape the service, or direct automated traffic at it;
- attempt to access other users' data, or any part of the system you have not been granted access to;
- interfere with, disrupt or place an unreasonable load on the service or its infrastructure;
- post content that is unlawful, defamatory, misleading or deliberately false, including community reports about venues;
- resell or redistribute the data we aggregate as though it were your own product; or
- use the service to breach any applicable law.
6. Free and Premium accounts
All account holders may track an unlimited number of venues. Core services and most features are available free of charge.
Some resource-intensive features, including Smart Paper Match, My Impact and similar services, may be subject to daily usage limits to help maintain the availability of the service. Free accounts may use these features within the limits shown in the product. If Premium accounts are offered, they may receive higher or expanded allowances for eligible features.
PublishJourney may determine, change, suspend or discontinue account tiers, features, availability, eligibility and usage limits from time to time. The limits that apply to an account will be shown in the product. We will give reasonable notice where a change materially reduces the features or usage allowances available to your account.
7. Accuracy of venue information
Please read this section carefully.
Venue information in PublishJourney is aggregated from third-party sources and from other users. Deadlines in particular are frequently community-suggested.
Information may be incorrect, out of date, or missing altogether. A deadline shown in the product may not be the actual deadline.
Always confirm a deadline, scope, fee or requirement against the venue's own official website before you rely on it. We provide this information as a convenience and give no warranty as to its accuracy.
8. Your content
Content you create in the service, including community reports, venue notes and feedback, remains yours. By submitting it, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, reproduce and display it for the purpose of operating and improving the service. This licence ends when you delete the content, except where it has already been incorporated into aggregate figures that do not identify you.
You confirm that you have the right to submit the content you post and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights.
We may moderate, edit or remove content that breaches these terms, and we may remove unlawful content without notice. If you believe content in the service infringes your rights or is inaccurate, contact support@publishjourney.com and we will review it.
9. Our intellectual property
The service, including its software, design, text and branding, belongs to us or our licensors. These terms grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable right to use the service, and nothing more. Underlying scholarly data remains subject to the terms of its original source.
10. Third-party sites
The service links to sites we do not control, including venue and publisher websites. We are not responsible for their content, their accuracy, or their handling of your information.
11. Availability
The service is provided on an as-is and as-available basis. We do not promise any uptime figure, we may change, suspend or withdraw features, and scheduled tasks such as deadline reminders may fail or be delayed.
Please do not make PublishJourney your only safeguard against missing a deadline.
12. Suspension and closure
We may suspend, lock or archive an account that breaches these terms, or where we reasonably believe suspension is necessary to protect the service or other users. Where practicable we will tell you why.
You may close your account at any time from your profile settings. The Privacy Policy explains what closure does and does not delete.
13. Disclaimers and liability
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot lawfully be excluded. Where our liability under such a law can be limited, it is limited to resupplying the service or paying the cost of having it resupplied.
Subject to the paragraph above, and to the fullest extent permitted by law:
- we exclude all warranties not expressly stated in these terms;
- we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss, or for loss of profits, revenue, data or opportunity; and
- we are not liable for loss arising from inaccurate or incomplete venue information, including a missed deadline.
Because the service is provided free of charge, our aggregate liability to you for all claims is limited to AUD 100.
14. Privacy
Our handling of your information is described in the Privacy Policy and the Cookie Policy, which form part of these terms.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. Where a change materially affects you, we will announce it in the product rather than amend this page silently. Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms. The date at the top shows when these terms were last revised.
16. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. You and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales and the courts able to hear appeals from them.
17. General
If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remainder continues in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not transfer your rights under these terms without our consent. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, are the entire agreement between us in relation to the service.
